Partners In Health is a non-profit organization made up of a team of medical professionals, scientists and activists. The organization provides medical services, provides training, conducts research and campaigns for human rights around the world. Her two main goals for the organization are to provide the benefits of modern medicine to those in need and to act as an "antidote to despair."
Partners In Health was founded in 1987 by Jim Kim, Ophelia Dahl, Paul Farmer, Todd McCormack and Thomas J. White to provide health care services to communities in Haiti. Partners In Health has since expanded into geographically diverse locations including Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, the Dominican Republic and the Navajo Nation. They have also expanded their network of affiliated organizations to several other countries.
A core belief of the founders and current contributors of
Partners In Health is that health is a human right available to all. Co-founder Paul Farmer is a human rights advocate and believes that "the idea that some lives don't matter is at the heart of everything wrong in the world." At Partners In Health, we continue to build the future we want and redefine what's possible in healthcare.
